Book Week 2014

This year Alice couldn’t decide between Wild Style and Black Widow, but Charlie quickly settled on Star Lord from the new Marvel movie.

As with previous years we met up with several other families and the children made crafts relating to each book that was read.

Museum Excursion.

Yesterday we went with our home school group to visit the Nicholson and Macleay musems .
These museums are run and maintained by Sydney University.  They are small and free, although we paid a small fee for a guided tour. The tour included access to the relics room, where the children were allowed to handle items . The age of these relics was between 2000 and 5000  years old.

The Macleay museum is mainly natural history, although it does have some other science items. This museum is currently housed  in an attic room, but there are plans to combine both museums in a larger building.

Of course, no excursion would be complete without a trip to a park.  Victoria Park was perfect.

Kuranda

We took a train ride up to the mountains today to enjoy some markets .

The train ride was one and a half hours and went over ravines and through lots of tunnels .  The railroad was originally built to cater for the gold rush .

The return trip was made by sky rail.

The Great Barrier Reef .

Today we took a boat trip out to Green Island . We all enjoyed a ride on the glass bottom boat before Pete took our niece and the kids snorkelling, whilst I relaxed and read my book and went for a massge .

Cairns

We are having a short break in Cairns this week.
Today we visited Hartley Crocodile Adventures.  We started our visit with a boat trip on the lagoon . Once the food appeared , it wasn’t long before there were several very large crocodiles swimming around the boat .

Next we watched the Extreme Crocodile show, starring a huge, angry crocodile and some crazy guys getting very close to him.
